Most dive sites are short and scenic boat ride from town to many sites in The Bay, most of which are fine for beginners and advanced divers alike. Around PV, you can dive shipwrecks, caves, underwater mountain ranges, and much more.
There is lots of amazing marine life to see when diving around Puerto Vallarta. (See Photos and Video links at the bottom of this page) You can spot all kinds of rays and turtles as well as moray eels, dolphins, and even humpback whales in season (December to April).
Scuba diving really is an incredible experience and is one of the best activities in Puerto Vallarta.
Puerto Vallarta is a great diving destination in its own right.
Puerto vallarta is also a nice place to visit. I moved to Puerto Vallarta permanently in 1998. I chose this beach town on the west coast of Mexico, after visiting other countries and cities in Mexico.
During those boat trips to the dive sites, you will be able to enjoy some impressive scenery of the mountains surrounding the Bay. Truly is a stunning place to visit and enjoy.
This is the perfect destination if you are hoping to do a bit of diving in addition to other adventure and cultural activities. Kick back and relax on the beach with a margarita in hand as well! after your dives.
You can contact the dive shop to know when would be the best times of the year to dive for visibility, water temperature, climate or best deals. There is always a good time any time.
The colder waters times of the year as December to May may reduce the visibility du the generation of planktons but also brings the giant mantas, whale sharks, and other creatures of colder waters. Visibility conditions may vary unpredictably but if arriving at the dive site looks to be not so desirable? The team will suggest to look for an alternative.
At some peak tourism time of the year like Christmas-New Year and Easter, it is preferable to make some reservations ahead of time.
During the summer, known as the rainy season, June to end-October, the water can reach 30c or 85f. Du to the wash-out of the rivers can also affect some site visibility. Again this can be offered another option site if desired.
Los arcos is a 45 min boat ride. Deep 20-120′
Majahuitas 60 min boat ride. Deeper dives 40-120′
Marietas 60 min boat ride. Deep 40-100′
Chimo and El Moro are 90 aprox boat ride. Deep 40-110′
Other sites that run further like Corbetena are available, if with sufficient participants.
If sea or visibility conditions are not favorable for safety or enjoyment, we will offer an alternative.
A variety of see life can be observed as shown in the links at the bottom of this page.
Perhaps the most popular spot to go scuba diving in Puerto Vallarta is Los Arcos.
This epic marine park features arches (hence the name) as well as caves, tunnels, and a reef full of marine life like lobsters, octopuses, moray eels, rays, and all kinds of colorful fish.
There are a few different trails that divers can follow at Los Arcos. These are suitable for divers of all levels as they range greatly in depth.
Beginners can enjoy “El Acuario” (The Aquarium) while more advanced divers can check out “El Bajo del Diablo”.
The Marietas Islands are a national park located about an hour-long boat ride from Puerto Vallarta.
National Marine parks are protected from fishing, there is an abundance of marine life.
It takes about an hour to reach the Marietas Islands by boat.
The stunning Hidden Beach on Marietas Islands is amazing to visit for snorkelers or during the surface dive interval.
