Islas Marietas are a special place to snorkel. There are teeming schools of fish, and the rocks are covered for abundant small critters. There is also an opportunity to snorkel at the Hidden Beach or Lovers Beach. The access here is highly controlled by the government to protect this pristine site. During the winter months, it is common to see humpback whales in the bay, since this is a centuries-old breeding ground and respite following their annual migrations. Dolphin encounters are a regular year-round occurrence.

On the islands we can observe a great variety of seabirds that nest and rest here, among which is the world famous blue-footed booby, brow booby bird,  magnificent frigate birds, several species of seagulls, also some herons and egrets, as well as pelicans. Around them, the underwater world also offers a great diversity of fish that find food and shelter in the reefs of the site, such as the king angelfish, the Moorish idol and giant damselfish, as well as various species of surgeonfish, butterflyfish, parrot fish and balloon fish. As part of the rocky reef we can observe several species of corals and sponges, as well as tunicates, starfish, octopus, sea urchins and colorful nudibranches among other marine invertebrates that your guide will point out. You can also watch, with a bit of luck and patience, dolphins or sea turtles resting or traveling near the place.
