Islas Marietas are located at the mouth of Banderas Bay 26 miles west of Puerto Vallarta. They are a protected marine area since 2005 and most recently a World Heritage Site. There are over 90 different species of resident and migratory marine birds on the Islands besides the reefs with there extensive, teeming sea life. The underwater diversity is one of the greatest within the Bay, There are shallow coral reef bottoms with many tunnels tunnels and swim throughs.
